I truly dislike how this ad starts, with an off-putting black-and-white description of disappointing conditions and a man who looks like he has stomach cramps, but it ends powerfully. The difficult economy is worse, and should be depicted as worse, than by showing a middle-aged man’s physical discomfort. Still, the second half salvages the ad:
