The American Legislative Exchange Council suffered contributor defections after drifting into partisan territory far from a serious advocacy of market-oriented policies.
How ironic, and sadly predictable, that the Koch Brothers hyper-partisan Americans for Prosperity is now rushing to ALEC’s financial defense. The very rhetoric and policies that are the stock in trade of AFP are the ones that put ALEC in its present fiscal predicament.
If ALEC wants to be taken seriously, it needs to stay as far away from
Americans for Prosperity as it can.
I was initially optimistic about a brighter future for ALEC along a non-partisan, pro-market path, but that optimism was evidently premature.
